Colorado Bill Approved by House Education Committee!

Our bill to exempt yoga teacher training programs from unnecessary regulation by the Colorado Division of Private Occupational Schools, SB186, was approved by the House Education Committee today by a 10-1 vote.

Despite the emergence of opposition to our legislation, we rallied together and showed the Education Committee Members that we care and that the yoga community is important to Colorado. We applaud our legislators for taking this important step to protect Colorado’s small businesses from unnecessary requirements. A special thank you to Rep. Alec Garnett, a bill sponsor and House Education Committee member, as well as everyone who spoke at the meeting, wrote emails and letters, and helped us raise awareness about this important issue.

We expect SB186 to first be heard in the House Appropriations Committee as soon as Friday, March 20 at 8:00 a.m., and then considered on the House floor either Friday or the following Monday. We have been advised by our champions in the General Assembly that we do not need supporters to attend any more hearings or write emails, but please do keep the letters coming!
