Legal Names Policy

When you create an account on the Yoga Alliance website, you must provide your legal first and last name along with an English characters version of your name. In addition, as part of the website Terms and Conditions, you must agree to ‘accurately maintain and update any information you have provided.’

Yoga Alliance needs your legal name for communication purposes and to be able to accurately assess your eligibility for registration and/or membership. Failure to comply with this policy may result in suspension or revocation of any RYS, RYT or YACEP Designation.

Yoga Alliance recognizes that many people go by names other than their legal name. As a individual applying for membership, you are asked to select a Directory Name. The Directory provides a listing of Registered Yoga Schools, Registered Yoga Teachers, and approved Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Providers. The Directory Name will be publicly shown on the Directory. Users may select any name they use (e.g., nicknames or spiritual name) with English characters in the Directory Name, subject to the website Terms and Conditions.
