Last night, we sent Colorado yoga teachers and schools a notice (shown below) encouraging them to testify at a Senate Education Committee hearing on Thursday, February 12, at which legislation intended to reauthorize the DPOS's operations and expand its power would be considered.
Our team learned earlier this afternoon that the DPOS-related legislation is no longer on the agenda for the committee hearing and will not be considered until next week at the earliest.
Therefore, we are no longer requesting that you attend tomorrow's committee hearing to testify.
Negotiations to exempt yoga teacher trainings from the DPOS's regulation remain ongoing with the Division, state legislators and the Hickenlooper Administration. We will be sure to keep you updated on the progress of these negotiations and to let you know how you can continue to influence them at the grassroots level.

Thank you for joining Yoga Alliance and the Colorado yoga community in opposing the Colorado Division of Private Occupational Schools’ (DPOS) efforts to impose burdensome and expensive requirements on yoga teacher training programs (YTTs). As you know, Yoga Alliance strongly supports initiatives in the Colorado General Assembly to protect the yoga community by restricting the authority of the DPOS to unnecessarily regulate YTTs.
Thursday is a critical time as a Senate committee will be assessing the DPOS – and we need your help.
On Thursday, February 12 at 1:30 p.m., the Senate Education Committee will be hearing legislation, Senate Bill 171, intended to reauthorize the DPOS for several more years. The bill expands the Division’s powers to shut down schools that it regulates. Public testimony is welcome, and you can testify about your experience as a yoga teacher, studio manager or school owner. This is an important opportunity for us to explain why the DPOS’ efforts are harmful to the yoga community and small businesses, and to ask our legislators to support an exemption for YTTs from the DPOS's regulations.
